The guards in the tower
were all fast asleep
so I took to the road in the rain
I've been out here on my own
for two or three weeks
look back, no I never would deign
I don't know where I'm headed
a vagabond sheep
that watches wanting through your window pane
out here in the mire
of the road do I seep
I whistle nothing but the tune of disembarking trains

and I woke
to the sound of your thunder
and I walked
with one leg a bit lame
when I woke
tore my t-shirt asunder
then I walked
born anew with love as my aim

In my wake there are no ripples
it's as smooth as sunrise
and my colours count out to infinity
the eye on the horizon
is the first thing I glimpse
but hardly the last thing I see
I've wiggled with the maggots
and feasted with the flies
I know this world from A right down to Z
I've burrowed in every tunnel
and hurdled every fence
to close the gap that comes between every last you and me

The mountain is a valley
and the castle's a shanty that sinks in the sea
I swam for my life and I made it
to the shore of your heart
where with bliss do I weep
